VICTORY!

12/05/08
After two years of campaigning we are delighted to announce that we have succeeded in our efforts to stop the MoD using live goats in diving research.

Following an internal review forced by SARC, the tests have been halted.

All 31 goats still at the facility have been rehomed via Buttercups Goat Sanctuary.

On behalf of the goats, we offer a huge thank you to everyone involved in this campaign.

Here are the goats in their new home:

VITAL ACTION NEEDED TO SAVE THE GOATS

06/05/07
The use of goats in UK hyperbaric research is currently being reviewed by the MoD. When this review began, we were informed that its findings would dictate whether or not the tests would be halted.

As of March 2007, there have been no tests on live animals in this field, and they will now only resume if the review finds them to be absolutely necessary.

Please take a moment to contact MoD and encourage them to make the ethical, and scientificaly sound decision.

QINETIQ LAB DEMO

07/04/07
Friday 13th - unlucky for QinetiQ! A dozen protesters held another loud and visual demo outside of their goat laboratory in Gosport.

These protests are clearly starting to have an effect on the security and site managers, as they rushed about with bits off paper trying to get the police to stop the demo. No such luck chaps, it's a called a democracy you see...

ARTICLE ON THE HYPERBARIC GOATS

06/03/07
Taken from the Southern Daily Echo:

Goats used in Navy tests for 'the bends'

ANIMAL rights campaigners have demanded an end to the use of goats in painful military experiments in Hampshire.

The tests, carried out by defence research company QinetiQ at a facility in Alverstoke, Gosport, involve subjecting goats to extreme pressures in sealed chambers.

DEMO AT QINETIQ'S LAB

23/02/07
A dozen campaigners held a noisy and lively protest outside of QinetiQ's goat laboratory in Gosport.

We arrived just after 3pm to ensure we could catch all the workers as they left for the weekend.

TESTS UNDER REVIEW - CONTACT YOUR MP AND THE MOD NOW!

29/01/07
The current contract and research programme Iis due to end very shortly in March 2007. As part of the contract renewal process the MOD is currently reviewing whether the research using goats needs to continue.

As part of this review they will be assessing the data they have already collected, to decide if there is enough data to construct a “safe-to-escape curve”. If they decide more data is needed they will continue to subject goats to the cruel hyperbaric chambers.

QINETIQ LEAFLETING IN COVENTRY

10/01/07
Campaigners distributed about 100 leaflets on the hyperbaric goat testing in Coventry city centre. There was a good response from the public, and he many people had questions, which were answered and they were directed to the sarc website.

LLOYDS DEMO IN TAUNTON

09/01/07
A demo was held against Lloyds in Taunton. Seven campaigners attended, as well as the Somerset County Gazette came down to take pictures and interviewed the activists. Another succesful demo.

LLOYDS DEMO IN PORTSMOUTH

04/12/06
Another effective demo against Lloyds TSB. Once again public support was phenominal.

This made it 10 demos in a week at 9 branches across 4 counties, with over 5000 leaflets being distributed.

LLOYDS DEMOS IN LEWES

01/12/06
Hundreds of leaflets were distributed in and outside of Lloyds TSB in Lewes.

Yet again we received a brilliant repsonse from the public.

If you would like to help us stop the hyperbaric tests on live goats, please contact us for campaigning material so that you can picket your local Lloyds.

LLOYDS REGISTRAR DEMO IN WORTHING

30/11/06
Unfortuantely Lloyds appeared to want to keep their staff from knowing about their involvement in diving experiments using live goats. All of the blinds were shut on the ground floor to prevent our banner from being seen, and security told staff to "rip up" leaflets.

Fortunatly the vast majority of staff took leaflets, and none listened to the security guard.

Scores more leaflets handed out, and another positive reception from employees.

LLOYDS DEMOS IN DORSET

29/11/06
Today we visited five branches of Lloyds in Dorset. Our aim was to inform as many people a possible about Lloyd's involvement in cruel diving experiments using live goats.

We started at 10am in Christchurch, and finished at 5pm in Winton, visitng branches in Southbourne, Boscombe and Bournemouth on the way.

QINETIQ DEMO IN CHRISTCHURCH

29/11/06
A very loud demo was held outside of QinetiQ's Christchurch branch, in protest against their use of live goats in diving tests.

Everyone from the neighbouring units came to see what the noise was about, and when we decided that QinetiQ had been suitably embarrassed we left ... for today.

DEMO AT LLOYDS TSB IN IPSWICH

28/11/06
Hundreds of leaflets were handed out outside of Lloyds TSB in Ipswich, in protest against the company's involvement in cruel diving experiments using live goats.

Even the manager came out to take a leaflet, and many customers stated that they were going to change their accounts to a different bank.

DEMO AT LLOYDS TSB REGISTRARS

27/11/06
A visual and noisy protest was held outside of Lloyds TSB registrars in Worthing.

This is where all of QinetiQ's shares are adminstered, and Lloyds also manage QinetiQ's bank account.

With a 4m long banner reading "WWW.SAVETHEGOATS.COM", and another which stated that "THIS COMPANY PROFITS FROM ANIMAL TORTURE", no one could miss us. Add to that two megaphones and whistles and people came flocking to see what we were up to.

NEW TARGET: LLOYDS TSB

11/11/06
Every year dozens of goats are killed in diving experiments, commisioned by the MoD and conducted by QinetiQ.

We are calling on Lloyds TSB to halt their support of cruel and unneccesary testing by boycotting QinetiQ until their animal research is abandoned. Lloyds provide QinetiQ with banking facilities and act as a registrar for their shares.

Please contact Lloyds and register your complaint. Please tell them you will boycott them, and will not use their banking services (sample letter below)

ANOTHER DEMO AT QINETIQ

06/11/06
Another day of fun at QinetiQ. We started off at the lab where the Hyperbaric Goats are undergoing cruel tests right now.

We were loud, and we were proud. We handed out leaflets to passers-by, and support from motorists was great. When the police finally arrived, they succesfully blocked the road, ensuring everyone had to slow down, and read our banners. They took our details and left us to it.

QinetiQ were having a new sign installed today, which we were told by the guy putting it up was "cheap as chips", yet again proving our theory that QinetiQ care little for their Alverstoke laboratory!

QINETIQ LAB DEMO

04/11/06
QinetiQ seemed pleased to see us as we turned up for yet another demo at their Fort Road laboratory in Gosport.

We were at the lab in time to see all the workers leaving for lunch, and while they zoomed out with (illegally) covered number plates, and gesticulated rather rudely at us, we questioned their use of animals in tests which have been stopped (and replaced) in France.

QINETIQ QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT

31/10/06
Robert Goodwill (Scarborough & Whitby, Conservative)
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence whether the Department has (a) undertaken and (b) commissioned hyperbaric chamber tests on live goats in the last five years.

QINETIQ DEMOS IN HAMPSHIRE

30/10/06
First stop today was the Alverstoke laboratory where dozens of goats are being subjected to cruel, pointless and outdated hyperbaric research.

As usual plenty of workers downed tools to see what we were doing, which is fine by us - the less work you do the better! Over paranoid security shuttled employees to and fro, whilst we chanted and displayed our banners.

MORE QINETIQ DEMOS

24/09/06
Campaigners braved the rain to hold a protest outside of QinetiQ's site at Hurn in Dorset.

This site is a test area for military vehicles, and we were not sure if there would be anybody on the facility.

Fortunately our fears were dispelled as soon as we arrived, as a car which was indicating to enter the site saw us and carried on going. As he went passed we saw that he was wearing a QinetiQ shirt.

DEMO AT QINETIQ'S HQ

24/09/06
A protest was held at QinetiQ's head office in Farnborough.

We invited the top brass to come out and justify their tests, but unsurprisingly they kept themselves hidden.

This site is huge. It is an entire industrial estate solely owned by QinetiQ, and so people kept coming in and out, ensuring that we could inform staff of their companies cruel diving tests on goats.

ANOTHER DEMO AT QINETIQ'S LAB

12/09/06
The campaign against QinetiQ continued with another demonstration outside of QinetiQ's Alverstoke laboratory.

By total coincidence ... we arrived just as the workers thought it was time to go home. It appears as though we are already starting to get to them, as they all drove out with tape over their number plates, and rather untasteful messages scrawled over them.

14 HOURS, 8 PROTESTORS, 4 SITES, 5 DEMOS AT QINETIQ

08/09/06
Today we held a day of action against QinetiQ to remind them that whilst cruel outdated tests are being carried out on goats at their Alverstoke Laboratory, compassionate people will be there to show their objections.

We set off at 6 am, and reached our first point of action just after 7.30 am so that we could inform the employees of QinetiQ on Haslar Rd, Gosport what happens at their Alverstoke Lab. We were warmly received by a great number of employees as they arrived at work, who smiled and waved in support. This is not surprising considering QinetiQ are carrying out tests which the French Navy are doing without animals.

QINETIQ CAMPAIGN HITS THREE SITES IN ONE DAY

07/09/06
We started of the day at the Alverstoke QinetiQ site, where the navy diving experiments are carried out. We began by pointing out the following facts:

1) QinetiQ have been carrying out hyperbaric tests on goats for over 40 years.
2) Recent research papers suggest that very little useful data has been found in that time.
3) Hyperbaric tests with goats have been conducted since 1905.
4) The reason goats are used is because, in 1905, they were deemed to be a similar size to an adult human, and there were lots of them about!
5) Within the last 100 years, the French navy have moved on to more scientific (non-animal) methods of research.
6) Several MP's have expressed concern at these tests, and have contacted senior QinetiQ officials.

SARC GREET QINETIQ WORKERS

01/09/06
A protest was held outside of QinetiQ's lab to coincide with the workers at the end of the day.

With banners and placards on show, it seemes passers by were more than happy to see us. The same cannot be said for QinetiQ, who spent hours trying to find a way of sneaking out of the site. They are clearly ashamed of what they are involved in, and don't want to be named and shamed for killing dozens of goats in cruel, useless experiments.

QINETIQ CAMPAIGN GATHERS LOCAL SUPPORT

22/08/06
An incredible number of cars honked their horns in support, with many more people waving and sticking up their thumbs. The horn honking stopped when the police arrived an hour in to the demo, but people continued to gesture support.

PRESS REPORT ON DEMO

20/08/06
Taken from the Portsmouth News:

"Animal rights protesters have begun what they vow will be weekly protests outside the gates of a local firm.

Members of the Poole-based Southern Animal Rights Coalition set up camp outside the QinetiQ factory in Fort Road, Gosport, to protest about the firm's use of goats in pressure-chamber tests.

THE CAMPAIGN GETS OFF TO A GREAT START

17/08/06
To kick of our new campaign against QinetiQ's cruel and unscientific hyperbaric tests using goats, SARC held a protest outside of their Alverstoke lab.

8 protestors held a loud, visual demosntration, with banners, placards, airhorns, megaphones, a drum, whistles... etc!

Loads of motorists honked in support, and QinetiQ security looked aptly embarrased.

SARC LAUNCH CAMPAIGN TO SAVE THE HYPERBARIC GOATS
17/08/06
Welcome to the new campaign website!

In July 2006, 9 goats were rescued from cruel diving experiments being conducted on behalf of the Royal Navy by a company called QinetiQ. You can read more about these tests here. We have been informed by the French military that NO animal tests are carried out by the Fench Navy. All of their hyperbaric experiments they carry out involve safe human studies, and computer simulations.

With this in mind, we are urging QinetiQ to hand over the remaining goats and turn to more reliable, and more scientific alternatives.

Please read the page on this site relating to the animal experiments, to discover just how cruel and uneffective they are. If you want to help stop these tests, click here to find out what you can do
